Destination DC

Geri here, writing from the navigator's chair (passenger seat) :-)
Day 1-
After the service at CrossRoad Church, and fitting all our stuff in the car, we hit the road!
We made great time, and stopped to make lunch at the GA Visitor Center.

Then, we kept making good time until we got into South Carolina....yeah. That was fun, as was getting gas in the middle of nowhere, so that the cost was $.20 more....

We eventually made it into North Carolina, and got some dinner. From then on, traffic was pretty good, so we just kept on moving!

After dark, we hit Virginia.

We were getting tired, but I still felt pretty energetic overall. So I took over at the wheel. Hills and curves and semis, oh my! It went fine, even though it's been a while since I was in traffic on the interstate in conditions like that.
We finally made it to our friend's house, and we were happy for a friendly face and comfy places to sleep!

The final countdown has begun... One week until departure!

Well, we have officially begun the countdown until we depart on our cross country adventure. A lot of preparation has been going on, yet there seems to be so much more to do before we leave on Sunday. We've been gathering supplies from friends and family, as well as, shopping for anything that will help make the trip go as smoothly as possible. We are currently in the process of finalizing our lodging/housing arrangements for the first two weeks. This has been the most difficult to secure as we have a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time, including seeing the bulk of my family and friends in just a few days time. We will share our potential map and schedule after it's finalized but we will save the fun details for each update we post.

For now I'll leave you with one fun pic of our home away from home for many of the days along our journey.
Also, if you've got any must see/do places to see along the way we are open to suggestions. :)

A Cross Country Adventure

Hello dear readers! Geri here. Vickie and I are really excited about our upcoming road trip! We hope to see some family and friends near and far...well mostly far. :-) We are also planning to see some cool sites like Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone! I am also playing with Google maps to try to get us into some of the continental states we haven't been in.

Here are our lists of states needed to take us to 48:
Vickie's been to 17 and needs -
  • Washington
  • Nevada
  • Utah
  • Montana
  • Wyoming
  • Colorado
  • New Mexico
  • Arizona
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Kansas
  • Nebraska
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Minnesota
  • Iowa
  • Missouri
  • Arkansas
  • Louisiana
  • Wisconsin
  • Illinois
  • Ohio
  • West Virginia
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • Alabama
  • Rhode Island
  • Connecticut
  • New Hampshire
  • Vermont
  • Maine
Geri's been to 33 and needs -
  • Maine
  • Rhode Island
  • Delaware
  • New Hampshire
  • Vermont
  • Connecticut
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Oregon
  • Washington
  • Idaho
  • Wisconsin
  • Oklahoma
Now, while we know we are dreaming to actually do all of this in just about 30 days, we do have some non-negotiables, and are (at least I am) ambitious (or a little crazy!) so we'll see how it goes. I (Geri) can't wait to see some friendly faces along the way, in their own context, and of course I'm excited to see some of our national treasures! We both know that these sort of opportunities are fleeting, so we are going to plan big, and do what we can!

T - 19 days until departure!
