Early on the morning of the fourth, it was time to hit the road. Our hopes were for fireworks in Boston, but Hurricane Arthur decided to pay New England a visit, so that didn't work out. More on that later in the post.
So we left New Jersey, and promptly paid almost $30 in tolls!!!! You're welcome, NJ and NY!
We skirted NYC, enjoying the view from afar, and continued north.
We made good time, and shortly entered Connecticut.
The rain bands were a little concerning for a while, but then the weather cleared up for the rest of our drive.
We finally entered Massachusetts, and we reached Boston in time for lunch!
We went to lunch with our friends, Nelson and Sam, and then they dropped us by the train so that we could go explore downtown (in the historic district).
And the rain started picking up.
One information person commented that it was the most quiet fourth of July she could remember. Because of Hurricane Arthur, the fireworks were shot off on July 3rd. So all the action was over, I guess. We were sad to miss them, but it was cool to be in Boston, and soooo good to see our friends.
We walked a little bit of the Freedom Trail, saw Park Street Church, and the Mass. State House, all situated at the Boston Common.

As we discussed how to proceed in the now steady rain, we felt a strong wind gust. We know from Florida what those kind of gusts feel like (those which accompany a tropical storm or hurricane). So we decided to cut things short, and go back to hang out with our friends at their place, safe from the storm.
We had a delicious salad full of lots of yummy things, fresh cornbread muffins, and coffee crumb cake, too. Soooo good!
Then we watched a quirky movie and crashed. We knew we had to turn around and drive the next morning, so we didn't stay up too, too late.
We were happy to visit with our friends, and are excited for all God is doing in their lives!
